Ask any student what their favorite part of the day is... you'll like get "recess!" or "lunch!"
These 5 make lunch so tasty for our students!

Mrs. Donna Fisse is the head of the cafeteria department. She has been here for 9 years! Donna loves spending time with her family, and you'll even see one of her sons on a future Staff Spotlight because he works in our tech department!

Mrs. Nichole Kalinowski has been a big help in the cafeteria for 6 years at SMS! Nichole and her husband, Joe, have 2 daughters: Natalie (high school) & Ashley (7th). Did you know Nichole is originally from Wisconsin? She still has family there and loves to travel and visit them as often as she can.

Mrs. Kimmie Gauck has been at St. Mary's for 2 years. Kimmie is always so bubbly and brings so much happiness to the students as they come through the line. Kimmie and her husband, Steve, run a family business called "Gauck's Meats" and everyone in their family helps! Her son, Christopher (high school) raises chickens for the business and her daughter Addie (high school) raises pigs. Both of her children were SMS students and now attend NDHS.

Mrs. Mandy Richards has helped in the cafeteria for 2 years. Her willingness to lend a hand and help around the school is so appreciated, in and out of the cafeteria. Mandy and her husband, Scott, have 3 children who have attended or are attending SMS: Lauren (high school), Emma (7th), and Chance (5th)

Mrs. Diana Hermesch has been here since 2004. We are sad to announce that Mrs. Hermesch is retiring after this year and we wish her all the best as she gets to spend more time with her grandchildren in her retirement! She says, "I feel like St. Mary's school was where I should be."

2nd graders are privileged to learn with these 3 ladies.

Mrs. Kathy Murray (not pictured) is a big blessing to St. Mary's as she prepares our sweet 2nd grade students for 2 special sacraments: Reconciliation & First Eucharist. If you've ever been given the privilege of hearing Mrs. Murray teach or speak about our faith, you will understand just how blessed our children are to learn about our faith from her.

Mrs. Mollie Johannigman, known as Mrs. J around SMS, has worn many hats here at school: observing and student teaching for her teaching degree & license; substitute teaching; teachers assistant to name a few, but a good portion of this year has been spent with the 2nd graders while Mrs. Murray was out on medical leave. Mrs. J has been working with children for 13 years; starting out in Early Childhood development as an Early Preschool teacher. She and her husband, Mike, have three children, Maggie (K), Raylan (PreK) and Amelia.

Mrs. Emily Weigel has been teaching for 10 years. This is her 2nd year at St. Mary's. She is the English Language Arts and Reading teacher for 2nd grade. She enjoys cooking, baking, and trying new recipes. She also loves to read when she finds time between teaching and being a mom & wife!

We love this trio and are so thankful for their contributions to our 2nd grade program!

These 2 super 6th grade teachers are amazing!

Ms. Trish Witkemper has been here at SMS for 23 years! She wears many hats in the junior high! She is a 6th grade homeroom teacher, but did you know she also teaches an elective course to all junior high students? Her elective is always so interesting, teaching things like button sewing, financial literacy, college and career readiness, employability skills, world languages, and the very popular Knightly News directed by the 8th graders! Trish has 2 children that attend SMS, Jill (8th) and Eric (4th). She is very close to her family and enjoys the time they spend together.

Mr. Rodney Martin has been with St. Mary's for 2 years. He teaches science and PE & health. Rodney and his wife, Kendra, have 4 children: Rhett (high school), Kenlee (high school), Ryker (5th), and Klara (PreK). Rodney loves to spend time with his family and he enjoys all sorts of sports, especially football.

This team is dynamite together and we are so thankful for them!

1st graders have so much fun with this pair of teachers.

Mrs. Jen Blankman is known to her students as "Mrs. B" and she's been a teacher for 24 years; teaching at St. Mary's for 15 of those years. Jen is an active member of our parish's music group; you may see her singing at church occasionally!

Mrs. Staci Schutte has been a teacher for 16 years and has been at St. Mary's for 8 of those years. Mrs. Schutte is known at school for her class pets, hosting guinea pigs, turtles, baby kittens, rabbits, hermit crabs, lizards, hatching ducks & chicks, and probably the students' favorite... our class dogs (Hi, Gus and Gertie Gehrich!)

Jen and Staci both love teaching first grade together and are thankful for the opportunity to share Jesus's love with those sweet kiddos.

Kindergarteners are lucky to have these 4 ladies as their teachers and assistants!

Mrs. Jenny Smith has been teaching for 26 years and 21 of those years have been here at her alma mater, St. Mary's School. Jenny loves to sing and, when she is not watching one of her four children compete in various sports or sing in choirs, you may see her cantoring at mass or leading songs at VBS in the summer. As a matter of fact, when she needs to catch her students' attention or help them remember something, she has been known to make up songs in the moment. She knows just how to make learning fun!

Mrs. Laura Rather has been a Kindergarten aide at St. Mary’s for 22 years! She says, "I enjoy helping out in kindergarten! I also love spending time with my 3 grandkids!"

Mrs. Megan Brown is the other Kindergarten teacher at SMS. Megan has been teaching at St. Mary's for 7 years. Megan loves to spend time with her family and friends. Her favorite part of school each week is working on STEM activities.

Mrs. Katie Hirt is Mrs. Brown's aide two days a week. Did you know, Katie is also Mrs. Brown's older sister?! This is her first year at St. Mary's School. Another fun fact: Mrs. Brown's daughter, Maya, and Mrs. Hirt's son, James, were born only 4 days apart!

These 4 ladies are shining smiles that teach some of our youngest learners at SMS and we couldn't ask for a better team!

3rd graders are so lucky to have such awesome teachers!

Mrs. Sue Myers has been teaching at St. Mary's for 31 years. (She has even had some of our current teachers as students "way back when") She also works at the YMCA in Batesville! She wears many hats there: life guard, facility rental hostess, and she works in the wellness facility. Mrs. Myers loves all sports, but she really loves to play volleyball and tennis. She says, "I am very happy to call St. Mary's my family! I am very blessed!"

Mrs. Mandy Bedel has been teaching for 16 years, 3 of which have been here at SMS. Mrs. Bedel is a big Purdue fan and loves camping and traveling. She loves sharing her passion for reading with kids. Mrs. Bedel says, "I really enjoy teaching with Mrs. Myers - we balance each other out."

Thank you both for being such great teachers for our 3rd graders. You both are all-stars!

Yes you are! St. MARYS has wonderful teachers.

Both excellent teachers. I’ve been helping Sue Myers in her classroom for about 7 years and helped in Mandy’s room a few times. I couldn’t continue when the pandemic hit and also have moved to another state recently. I miss these 3rd grade teachers and the St. Mary’s learning environment.

Love them both!

Sue Myers I will always remember the Garth Brooks days and how you made learning so fun... "way back when" in 2nd grade was one of my best years there ♥

Our 7th & 8th grade team of teachers rock!

Mrs. Lisa Schwering is the homeroom teacher for our oldest learners at St. Mary's, 8th grade. She is also the math teacher for the 6-8 junior high students. This is her 20th year teaching, but 5th year here at St. Mary's. She has spent her entire teaching career teaching middle school math to grades 6-8. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Andy, and 2 kids, Alaina & Luke (both SMS students), traveling to warm places, and teaching dance fitness Zumba classes.

Mrs. Julie McKittrick has 20 years of working in the education field. This is her 6th year at SMS. She is our junior high social studies teacher. Mrs. McKittrick has traveled to 47 states, you should ask her which ones she hasn't been to yet!

Mrs. Laura Domingo has 23 years of teaching under her belt with 13 of them being at SMS. Mrs. Domingo is the reading/language arts teacher for our junior high students. Throughout her career, she has taught grades 3-8. When asked which grade is her favorite, she said, "My favorite grade is always the grade I am currently teaching that year!" Did you know Mrs. Domingo LOVES shopping at Picker's Paradise for her classroom decor?!

Our junior high students are certainly blessed with the best!
