Our 7th & 8th grade team of teachers rock!

Mrs. Lisa Schwering is the homeroom teacher for our oldest learners at St. Mary's, 8th grade. She is also the math teacher for the 6-8 junior high students. This is her 20th year teaching, but 5th year here at St. Mary's. She has spent her entire teaching career teaching middle school math to grades 6-8. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Andy, and 2 kids, Alaina & Luke (both SMS students), traveling to warm places, and teaching dance fitness Zumba classes.

Mrs. Julie McKittrick has 20 years of working in the education field. This is her 6th year at SMS. She is our junior high social studies teacher. Mrs. McKittrick has traveled to 47 states, you should ask her which ones she hasn't been to yet!

Mrs. Laura Domingo has 23 years of teaching under her belt with 13 of them being at SMS. Mrs. Domingo is the reading/language arts teacher for our junior high students. Throughout her career, she has taught grades 3-8. When asked which grade is her favorite, she said, "My favorite grade is always the grade I am currently teaching that year!" Did you know Mrs. Domingo LOVES shopping at Picker's Paradise for her classroom decor?!

Our junior high students are certainly blessed with the best!

What an amazing day we had for our Walk-a-Thon! To say it was a success is an understatement. The students had a blast, the weather was gorgeous, the music was pumping, and the fresh air and sunshine made us all feel God's love all around us! We wanted to say a couple of HUGE thank yous!

Thank you families for your financial donations to our fundraiser this year! Your generosity is much appreciated! We are still counting and adding, so the grand total will be announced on a later day!

Thank you to the people who organized and ran the show! It was so well organized and the day was PERFECT!

Thank you to our event sponsors. You can find their logos on the back of our event shirts! Don Meyer Ford, Bedel Security, Walters Tire, Stone's Farm Service, Taff Furniture, Stone's Napa, Levenstein's, Schwering Excavating, Lowe's Pellets & Grain, and Dr. Weigel, Lohmueller, Weigel Optomistrists.

Thank you to the generous donors who gave prizes for the students to win throughout the day! We had over 90 winners! Walmart, Painting The Town, St. Maryโ€™s Athletic Department, St. Maryโ€™s Student Council

We are blessed with 3 awesome "specials" at St. Mary's: PE, music, and art. Students at SMS get to attend these classes once a week.
Mrs. Keri Mauer graduated from IUPUC in 2017 and was hired immediately out of school making this her 4th year in our school. Mrs. Mauer and her husband, Andrew, are excited to welcome their second child this spring. She loves trying new places to eat with her husband and friends and her favorite sport to watch is women's college softball. Mrs. Mauer also shares her time at school in 4th & 5th grade for science and remediation.

Mrs. Paula Davis was a 6th grade classroom teacher for 5 years working at a Catholic school in Indianapolis, Milroy Elementary, and at a public school in Arizona before taking some time off to raise her family. She and her husband, Matt, have 3 children, Owen, Chloie, and Ana who are all students at school here. This is her third year at SMS teaching music part time. She says, "It is a pretty awesome job to come to each day. Singing and dancing and making music with the talented and sweet students at St. Marys brings a lot of joy to my heart."

Mrs. Carol Blankman is our art teacher. She grew up in Indy and is second oldest of 10 kids! She attended Catholic Schools her entire life (St. Matthew, St. Mary Academy and Marian College...now a University). She met her husband, Bob, at Marian and they have 3 children together. She started teaching at St. Mary's about 14 years ago and has taught art and music during her time here. These are two of her favorite things to do! You will see her playing the guitar and singing in our guitar group at church. She says, "My art has given me many opportunities from designing posters and painting sets for Tree County Players to being commissioned to paint the coat of arms for Archbishop O'Mara. I hope that our students will have many opportunities opened up to them as they develop an appreciation for art in the world around them, along with their own individual talents."

Thank you for pouring your passion for your subjects into our students!

I strive to make learning fun and the children eager to come to school each day."

Miss Madison Bower is in her 6th year at SMS. She is the 3-day AM/PM aide & the 2-day PM teacher. It is definitely like family."

Mrs. Bri Little is in her 1st year back at St. Mary's. She worked here previously for 4 years in the daycare & she taught PE for 1 year. This year she is the 2-day AM&PM aide for Mrs. Wilmer & Miss Bower. She has her associates degree in education graduating from IVY Tech in 2016. Staff Spotlight, Episode 2

Our maintenance staff is stellar and we are so thankful for them!

Brad Fox is the head of the department and has been a life long parishioner of St. Mary's, even attending school here in his early years. He is married to Suzanne, and they have 3 children together, Veda, Lyla, and Rhys (all of whom are students at our school). He began his leadership in the maintenance department in August 2019.

Tom Litmer and Rose Weber are also a part of the maintenance team. Tom started working as a custodian here in September 2019. He worked at Crown Zellerbach for 30 years while also running his own appliance repair business. He is married to his wife Laura of 43 years. He has two daughters and four grandchildren, two (Harper and Brody) of which go to our school here at SMS. In his spare time, Tom enjoys spending time with his family and maintaining his collection of antique tractors.

Rose Weber started working as a custodian here in November 2019. Rose is married to her husband Larry of 32 years. They share three sons and four grandchildren. In her spare time, Rose enjoys maintaining her flower gardens at home and camping with family.

When asked how Mr. Fox feels about his position at St. Mary's, he said, "Every day, of every week, Tom and Rose are the fuel that keep St. Mary's running smoothly and efficiently. There is absolutely no way our organization could run like it does without their continuous hard work and fantastic attitudes. We are extremely lucky to have them as integral parts of our team at St. Mary's parish." And we feel the same about you, Mr. Fox. Thank you all for the time, dedication, and heart you and your team put into keeping our parish campus in tip-top shape.

We are going to be running a series of posts to help you get to know our amazing school and staff. Today, we will start with our administration.
Mrs. Nancy Buening is our fearless leader and first began her Catholic School career as a classroom teacher for 23 years before becoming principal 13 years ago. When not at school, Mrs. Buening enjoys running and jogging outside. The year before her son, Joe, left for Navy boot camp, starting in April, they ran a 5K each month for the rest of the year together until he left in December (some months they even ran 2!)
She doesn't do it to set records or win....she just likes the feeling of accomplishment. Did you know, Mrs. Buening spends her morning greeting your sweet children and grandchildren as they walk into our school? The students are blessed to have such a visible and available principal whether in the classroom, hallways, lunch room, or on the playground.

Mrs. Alicia Prickel also got her start in education as a classroom teacher for 9 years at a Catholic School in Indy. She joined our St. Mary's family in the 2015/16 school year making this her 6th year here. She loves being a part of seeing our students grow and learn while helping teachers grow and teach. She really enjoys sharing our Catholic faith together. Mrs. Prickel is always visible to the students, making visits to the classroom, walking the hallways, and can be found helping open ketchup packets, checking off lunches, and leading prayer at lunch time.

We are certainly blessed in the leadership we have at SMS.
