Our Principal

Welcome! Thanks for taking the time to find out a little bit more about me.

I’ve actually been part of St. Mary’s for most of my life.  I attended grade school in the old building, and after earning my Bachelors Degree at Marian College, now Marian University, I went back to St. Mary’s to teach. I earned my Masters Degree from Indiana University and taught a total of 23 years at St. Mary’s School.

I went back to school at Indiana Wesleyan University to earn my Principal’s License in 2008, and that fall I took on the role of principal. I have enjoyed learning even more about the school I have called home for so long.

St. Mary’s has been a central part of my family’s life as well.  My husband, Kenny, and I have been life-long members of St. Mary’s parish, and this is where our five children were baptized and attended school.

While most of my time was spent at our old school campus, we are proud to say that we are now in a brand new facility located nearby.  Construction of our new school started in 2011, and in the summer of 2012 we moved to
our new location.  All I can say is what an awesome event.  So many hands were involved in packing, loading, moving and unloading.  Some parish members even gave food to support those who were working and others kept
the prayers going to support the project spiritually.  It truly was a St. Mary’s community event.

Although we are excited about our new facility, we always want to remember that our parish has a long and rich history, so we brought some of it with us.  An antique desk that once was part of the old school now graces the
front office, and in many classrooms there are coat hooks that served the old building well.  We also have some of the large wooden storage cabinets, reused shelving in the library, and even removed the guardian angel from the front of the building to watch over us here as well.

That’s my history and the history of our school. Now we’d like to invite you to begin a history of your own here.

You’re welcome to visit us anytime.

God Bless,
Mrs. Nancy Buening
